The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me…to comfort all who mourn. Isaiah 61: 1,2
Prayer: Jesus, son of God and man acquainted with grief, You who wept at the grave of your friend Lazarus, thank you for drawing close to all who mourn. Revive hope, provide comfort and pour new strength as I journey on, grieving the loss of a loved one, a job or even a dream! As unimaginable as it may sound now, I believe that You can turn my mourning into dancing.
Prayer: God, Your Word is teeming with sound advice regarding money matters. Raise me up to be both a diligent student and a wise steward of these principles. Contentment with my wages, planning and budgeting, hard work, fair business dealings and generous living honours You. Steer me clear from the quagmire of debt, getting rich quick, borrowing and lending unwisely and other lies.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
Prayer: Lord, You warn us to take special care of our minds, for as a man thinks, so he is. Today I submit my mind to the scrutiny of Your word, for in far too many ways, I think and do as the world does. Clear my mind from doubt, stress, lies and strongholds I have allowed to build up. I desire a sound mind, that can decide, discern and reason, unsullied and sincere, that is productive and able to concentrate, remember, reason and comprehend – the very mind of Christ!
“But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:13
Prayer: I thrive because Your mercies are manifold and new every morning, for You are full of forgiveness, tenderhearted and kind to all Your children. Father-God, rescue me today from any self-righteousness or overblown sense of importance and let Your mercy give birth to mercy. I desire to diligently practice this be-attitude in my life.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
Prayer: Lord, I know that to be meek does not mean that I am weak, but I still confuse these two. Help me grasp the complete meaning of meek as in yielding, obedient, humble, quiet, gentle and unassuming. As it says everything about where I am in relation to God, help me to be powerfully gentle in all my dealings today .
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11
Prayer: The Greek word used here for ‘putting away childish things’ is a very forceful one – katageo, it means to cut off or disassociate from. Lord, like Paul, I too want to stop playing games and grow up. Help me from this moment on, to deal with life more realistically and honestly.
But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10: 41,42
Prayer: Father, while I admire Martha’s welcoming home and servant heart, it is her sister, Mary that captivates my soul. In a world full of distractions, multi-tasking and information overload, I am determined to pursue the one thing that is essential and Mary has chosen it – intimacy with You!
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery – but I am talking about Christ and the church. Ephesians 5: 31,32 (NIV)
Prayer: Father, You created marriage to reflect the covenant union of Christ and his church-bride, yet sin has wreaked havoc with this earthly picture. This profound mystery as seen in male-female sexuality and marriage very seldom testifies about that event. We need Your intervention. Please restore this powerful image in my marriage, and every marriage in the church.
Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’ John 6:31
Prayer: ‘What is it’ in my life and Yours that feed us body, soul and spirit? Jesus Christ, hidden manna, sent by God from heaven, bread of life, we worship with joy, we celebrate with thanksgiving – Your glorious life and death!
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies and exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. Luke 1:46,47 (AMP)
Prayer: Lord, birth in me a Mary spirit whose heart so overflows with thanksgiving and praise in this verse, that she exuberantly bursts into song. Called out of darkness into Your marvellous light, I too desire to make You look as big as You really are, daily proclaiming Your excellencies, and worshipping Your holiness!
